Worried about the future? Beating yourself up for something you did (or didn’t do) in the past? Are your thoughts looping, endlessly replaying scenarios in your head?
All of these can leave you feeling hopeless and afraid. It might help to stop and ask yourself, “What about now?”
The present moment is where creation happens. We are creating our lives right now, whether we are conscious of it or not. If our focus is too much on the past or we fret too much about the future, our creation becomes something that happens by accident, instead of a masterpiece we shape with intention.

Ways to Bring Ourselves Back to the Present
Stop for a moment and notice where you are right now. Notice the things around you, the sounds, the smells. Take in the colors and textures of the objects that fill this space. Now, look up. Notice what is above your head and below your feet. Spatial awareness can help bring us into the present moment and back to a consciousness of what we are doing.
Close your eyes and focus your attention inward. Mentally search your body and notice how different parts of you are feeling. What sensations do you feel? Are there aches or tension that you hadn’t noticed before? Breathe into the uncomfortable parts of you and allow them to soften. Physical awareness can bring us into a heightened state of consciousness.
Take a moment and ask yourself what you are feeling right now. Where do you feel this emotion in your body? If it had a shape, what shape would it be? What color? What texture? What weight? Imagine taking it into your hands and just be with it for a moment. Now imagine setting it aside or giving it away. Emotional awareness can help us understand what is driving our looping thoughts and often the very act of examining stuck emotion can help us let it go.
Being present is about cultivating awareness. When we are aware, we can take steps to create a life we love.
Live your life instead of letting it pass you by. Being present in now makes all the difference.
